MY FIRST DAY AT SALBONI

3rd May’2007. How can I forget that day? The day that has changed my life.

I was doing MBA from AMU while I got offer letter to work with BRBNMPL (my current organization) and I have to join at Bangalore. I decide to quit my MBA and joined the job.

The great shock came when after 14 days of working at Bangalore office, I was asked to move to another location. SALBONI. A small town in little known district. WEST MIDNAPORE. In the land of well known b’ful actresses (though I haven’t seen a single female in salboni worth appreciating till now). WEST BENGAL.

I traveled from Bangalore to Kharagpur (yes……. IIT wala kharagpur) in Yesvantpur- Howrah Express. Reached Kharagpur at 4 in the morning on 3rd May. Company vehicle was there to pick me up. And the journey started towards Salboni. It took around an hour.

When I was on the final road to our township, I was shocked to see the surroundings. Since it was month of May, there were no leaves on trees. Very few people on the road. At that early hour also, it was very hot and humid. The temperature and sweat was killing me. It was as though I am passing through a jungle…… a deserted jungle.

By the way, Salboni itself means BON of SAL (Forest of Sal trees).

Entering our township was like entering a fort. It’s obvious because of its being a security organization. First the spike busters, then a fort like gate and in between security personnel with all type of frisking and crosschecking.
Reached guesthouse by 7. Quite relieved to see it. It was well constructed and well managed. A leisurely stay was awaiting me. It was the only positive thing that had happened to me till that time since the time of leaving Bangalore.

Another shock of my life was given by my office timings. 0745 to 1645. Can u imagine???????????!!!!!!!!

I have spent my whole school and college life in a hope that getting early is just temporary. After getting job, I would have the pleasure of getting up late. All dreams were shattered there and then.

Rest of the day, all official things happened.
